Evolumination
Light Installation @ DDW 2023
Evolumination was the result of a collaboration between Aalto Arts and Borg Markkula Oy. The collective, Kollegi, exhibited at Dutch Design Week 2023, Microlab Hall.
Form Follows Habitat
The installation consists of a large array of unique pendant lights arranged in a 6x6m grid. Each corner of the space represents a habitat, with specific conditions. For instance, you can think of one corner depicting an arid, desert climate, while another representing a lush grove. The remaining lamps in between blend the characteristics of the adjacent environments. Thus, the living conditions in each coordinate of the space are different, resulting in a unique adaptation and shape of each lamp. For the audience this manifests in a gradient field of change among the population, allowing for an exploration and meditation on the concept of boundaries in nature.
From a computational design point of view, we presented a solution space in a tangible example of 144 unique lamps.
