Plastic Beach
Design Studio | SUTD 2019
The studio takes on the challenging task of rethinking the area that circles “The South China Sea”, and its geopolitical and material ecology through the reconceptualization and design of large-scale infrastructures and localized-material assemblages. By building a narrative, a fiction, we create a new reality in which we operate to rethink current notions of the city and its inhabitants. In a future where rising sea levels create an immense wave of climate refugees, what could be a means to grant them an opportunity for social equity? The creation of an off-shore colony, an assemblage of modules crafted from the plastics that pollute our oceans.
